ASAPP Debuts Service at the 2020 MotoGP Qatar

In the weeks leading towards March 6th, where the season opener of the 2020 MotoGP - QNB Qatar Grand Prix would take place in Losail International Circuit, ASAPP was preparing for its first official launch at a sporting event. However, as with most journeys, this wasn’t a straight line.

The Losail International Circuit has a lot of history and innovation when it comes to adapting its facility. It hosted its first MotoGP race in October 2004 and it is now the season opener in the MotoGP calendar and the only circuit that does the race at night.

Two days before the Grand Prix, awaiting Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and more, the Qatari government officials cancelled the race due to the threat of Covid-19. Only the Moto2 and Moto3 divisions (who were already undergoing practice sessions in Qatar) would race. This was a big shock for all.

That being said, although with great uncertainty, ASAPP was able to take away many positives from the 2020 MotoGP - QNB Qatar Grand Prix.

Accommodating the best experience for fans who come from all over the world to see the MotoGP, the fan zone is filled with different food trucks, merchandise stores, games for children and more. Amongst the activities and options that were available for fans at the 2020 Grand Prix was ASAPP, debuting its innovative service for the first time in the Middle East.

The pain for the attending fans was clear; The time it takes to get from the Grandstand seats to the food area of the circuit was approximately a 6 minute walk. In addition to waiting in line to order, waiting for your food and the 6 minutes back to your seat, this whole F&B journey would take up to roughly 20 minutes!

ASAPP strategically set up a booth near the Grandstand and aimed to resolve the clear pain fans had to go through for a simple snack or drink while watching the race. So instead of spending 20 minutes trying to get your food, with ASAPP it would take no longer than 10 minutes, and most importantly, you wouldn’t have to miss any of the action!

The ASAPP team began their work in the fan zone by giving out fliers of their services and using social media to spread the word. Having made agreements with the food vendors before the race weekend, the ASAPP team had priority to place orders to be able to execute the operation as quickly as possible. In return, the customer would receive live notifications on the status of their order and when it would be ready for collection from the ASAPP booth. For each order that was done through the platform, customers received a free t-shirt and hat for trusting the ASAPP service.

Considering that the 2020 MotoGP weekend was the first time ASAPP offered its services, there were some rookie mistakes and bumps in the road. Despite this, the weekend was a big success and the team was able to complete orders, make new customers and get important feedback moving forward. Moreover, ASAPP is excited to cement its place as the first stadium service application in the region.
